The South Muskoka Sailing School offers great Racing Programs for those who would like to take sailing to a higher level.  We have 2 programs designed for specific age groups and dingy classes.

1. Laser II Racing Program:

In 2006, we will offer our Laser II Racing Program three afternoons per week, for six weeks commencing July 1^st. This program develops advanced racing skills and allows our junior racers to meet competitors from other clubs across Canada. Our team will compete in several regattas which are yet to be determined. We have several Canadian and Provincial Champions that have come from our ranks!

Completion of Bronze IV is required to participate in the Laser II Racing Program. It should be noted that the program depends on parent volunteers to assist with driving to and from regattas. Parents of each student are expected to commit to one, one-way drive to a regatta, towing a boat trailer. Please have a vehicle with a trailer hitch available. Sorry, we cannot reimburse gas costs, given our fee structure.

A mandatory meeting of racers and parents will be held in early July. Location and exact date TBA.

2. Optimist Dinghy Race Program:

The Optimist Dinghy Race Program is now formatted much like the Laser II Racing program, with on-water and on-land instruction three afternoons per week, for six weeks commencing July 8^th. The sessions begin after the regular sailing school lessons. Racing students enrolled in Sailing School are encouraged to bring a lunch so that the Racing Program can commence after they eat.

This program is intended to introduce White III and Bronze IV students to dinghy racing, and advance them towards competitive Optimist regattas. The program culminates with Opti Youth Fest in Kingston in late August. This is a very fun event for the kids. Parent chaperones are required only for this one event during the summer.
