SMSC’s Racing Heritage Continues
SMSC has produced many competitive sailors in the Albacore, Windsurfing, Laser, Club 420, 470, 420, J24 and J22, GC21, Opti fleets over its 40 plus year history. We’ve had Canadian and Provincial Champions amongst our ranks, top World Championship finishers, Olympic Team contenders, and a long list of District and Inter-club honours. We’ve won the MLA Commodore’s Cup too many times to mention. One of our members recently won the coveted Canada’s Cup.
We’re very proud of our racing heritage and encourage sailors at all levels to participate in our Club Races or Youth Racing Program. Sailboat racing is an exciting and fun way to enjoy Muskoka.
Our Racing Program runs Tuesday-Thursday afternoons, weeks 2-7.
This program develops advanced racing skills and allows our racers to meet competitors from other clubs across Canada. Our team will compete in several regattas which are yet to be determined. We have several Canadian and Provincial Champions that have come from our ranks!
It should be noted that the program depends on parent volunteers to assist with driving to and from regattas. Parents of each student are expected to commit to 1 one-way drive to a regatta towing a boat trailer. Please have a vehicle with a trailer hitch available. Sorry, we cannot reimburse gas costs, given our fee structure.
This season we will be focusing on regattas in the Muskoka area and may travel to 2 or 3 events further afield where we will require parents assistance in the transportation of students and boats to and from regattas. Our race coach will contact parents of racers by the end of June in order to begin organizing for the season. Thank you for your support.
There is an additional fee for race training and regatta participation. For more information, please contact Cheryl, firstname.lastname@example.org
A mandatory meeting of racers and parents will be held in early July. Location and exact date TBA.
